As part of a planned expansion in clinical staff over recent years, and a commitment to improve work-life balance, we are looking to recruit a Part Time (6 session) GP to join our existing team.

Main duties of the job

  • To work as an autonomous practitioner, responsible for the provision of medical services to the practice population, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care whilst complying with the PMS contract.
  • The post-holder will adhere to the GMC standards for good medical practice, contributing to the effective management of the practice, leading by example, maintaining a positive, collaborative working relationship with the multidisciplinary team.

About us

  • We currently have a team of 10 GPs, 1 ANP, 4 PNs, 2 HCAs and a Nurse Associate, as well as a clinical pharmacist with meds management team support, first contact physiotherapist, health & wellbeing coach and care co-ordinator.
  • We have a full complement of established administration staff providing help with workflow systems such as incoming clinical correspondence, lab results and prescription queries.
  • CQC rated good all areas August 2019.
  • EMISweb clinical system.
  • High QOF achievement consistent over the years.
  • We are a long-established training practice working from purpose-built premises in Hoyland, Barnsley.
  • Good transport links, 5 minutes from M1 Junction 36.
  • We are a training practice for registrars and undergraduate medical students from Sheffield medical school. The practice has a strong educational ethos.
  • Special clinical interests are encouraged and supported.
  • Good clinical support. Our clinicians meet daily to discuss difficult and complex cases.
  • We hold monthly practice meetings. All members of the practice team are invited to attend. Participation is encouraged.
  • Regular team leader meetings are held to review progress/achievement on all contractual obligations.
  • Continuously reviewing our practice systems and processes with an aim to improving patient experience whilst also considering the wellbeing of our workforce.
  • Informal visits welcomed.

Job responsibilities

  • Youremployment will be for 8 sessions per week as per practice rota, except in exceptional circumstances by mutual agreement, when you may be asked to work at other times.
  • Surgeries, as allocated per practice rota (by mutual agreement) (Start and finish times will differ on day of extended hours surgery as per practice rota).
  • The delivery of highly effective medical care to the entitled population.
  • The provision of services commensurate with the PMS contract.
  • Generic prescribing adhering to local and national guidance.
  • Effective management of long-term conditions.
  • Processing of administration in a timely manner, including referrals, repeat prescription requests, correspondence from secondary care/third parties, filing and acting on results of investigations and other associated administrative tasks.
  • On a rotational basis, undertake duty doctor role (one day per week).
  • Inclusion in extended hours rota.
  • Share of emergency appointments to support the partners in meeting daily demand.
  • Provide home visits to those patients meeting the eligible criteria.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with good practice, policy and guidance.
  • Working collaboratively, accepting an equal share of the practice workload.
  • Adhere to best practice recommended through clinical guidelines and the audit process.
  • Contribute to the successful implementation of continuous improvement and quality initiatives within the practice.
  • Clinical and admin duties required to contribute towards maximum achievement against QOF, ES and local scheme targets.
  • Complete insurance forms/medical examinations/incapacity benefit/fitness to work/blue badge etc forms on patients.
  • Complete death certificates and crem form part 1s (money for part 2s received as separate payment).
  • Attend and contribute effectively to practice meetings as required.
  • Ensure compliance with the appraisal process.
  • Prepare and complete the revalidation process.
  • Commit to self-learning and instil an ethos of continuing professional development across the practice team.
  • Support the training of medical students from all clinical disciplines.
  • Support the partners in achieving the strategic aims of the practice, making recommendations to enhance income and reduce expenditure.
  • Review and adhere to practice protocols and policies at all times.
  • Encourage collaborative working, liaising with all staff regularly, promoting a culture of continuous improvement always.
  • Participate in practice audits as requested by the audit lead.
  • Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care.
  • Participate in the review of significant and near-miss events applying a structured approach i.e. root cause analysis (RCA).

Person Specification

  • Qualified General Practitioner registration with GMC.
  • Disclosure and Barring Service Check. This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
