We are currently looking for a forward thinking and enthusiastic individual who wants to join our existing team at Wakefield Equipment and Wheelchair Service. This is a career-graded role with clear progression routes from Level 1 (Grade 7) through Level 3 (Grade 9). Whether you’re starting out or already qualified, we’ll support you to grow and succeed.

What You’ll Do
- Work within the agreed eligibility criteria set out in the Wheelchair Service Specification, providing clinical rationale and seeking approval for prescriptions made outside these criteria.
- Deliver a high standard of clinical assessment and intervention for service users with a range of long‑term and short‑term conditions.
- Prescribe manual wheelchairs and associated equipment based on individual assessed need.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and produce professional reports.
- Participate in audits, service development, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Uphold professional standards and council values, ensuring dignity, equality, and respect.
Who We’re Looking For
Level 1 (Apprenticeship route)
- Must meet the entry requirements set by the University of Huddersfield for the Occupational Therapy Degree Apprenticeship.
- A passion for helping others and willingness to complete a 3-year degree apprenticeship.
- Awareness of community health/social care, disability concepts, safeguarding, and equality principles.
- Full driving licence and access to a car.
Level 2/3 (Qualified)
- BSc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy.
- HCPC registration.
- Full driving licence and access to a car.
- Strong knowledge of legislation (Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, Human Rights Act), clinical governance, and housing standards.
- Experience managing complex cases and working collaboratively across teams.
Skills & Competencies
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to plan and prioritise workloads effectively.
- Confidence in lone working and using supervision effectively.
- Competence in IT systems and report writing.
- Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
- For Level 3: Ability to lead audits, mentor staff, and contribute to service development.
