Wakefield Council and its health partners have a clear goal to make substantial health improvements in the Wakefield District through the delivery of public health functions and services and better partnership working. We are currently recruiting a Senior Lawyer to be based within our Commercial Law Team.
The Commercial Law Team is divided into two sub-sections: the Contract Law Team and the Property Law Team. The post is based within the Contract Law Team which plays an important role in advising the Public Health Team to effectively deliver its public health functions, aims and priorities.
You will be expected to provide legal advice and support across a wide range of interesting and varied legal work and projects in the areas of public health commissioning, procurement, subsidy control, contracting and partnership arrangements.
The role is open to Qualified Solicitors, Barristers or Chartered Legal Executives with a current practicing certificate and relevant experience in relation to the areas of work undertaken by the Contract Law Team. Candidates will be expected to have experience of:
- Drafting legal documents
- Inputting into the drafting of various types of reports
- Conducting legal research
- Providing clear, concise and pragmatic legal advice
The role is subject to Career Grades which will allow candidates to be appointed at a pay grade which appropriately reflects their level of experience and expertise and once appointed, progress through pay grades whilst undertaking training, demonstrating increased levels of competence, and taking on more responsibilities. Employees within a Career Grade will progress through the Grades, subject to meeting the progression criteria, outlined within the Job Specification, and there being a Service need for work at the next level.
Successful candidates will join a dynamic and experienced team undertaking critical work to help deliver the Councils’ corporate priorities and the discharge of key statutory duties and responsibilities.
