An exciting opportunity exists in the Council’s Street Scene Services for a Team Leader LGV Driver working from our Depot at Street Scene Depot, Newton Bar, Wakefield.

This is a seasonal post within the Waste Recycling Service, running from March to November. The successful applicant will work 39 weeks per year (March to November) and are not required to work December through to February, though the offer of occasional extra work may be made. A pro rata salary payment will be made in 12 equal monthly instalments.

What will be expected from me?

The postholder will be required to demonstrate that they have the following skills, knowledge and experience:

  • To be an ambassador for the Council when dealing with all stakeholders and customers, and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • To deal with conflict situations.
  • To be self-motivated and can motivate others.
  • To have a good understanding of Health & Safety procedures.
  • The ability to assess problems and provide practical solutions.
  • To have the ability to prioritise conflicting demands.
  • To display good numeracy and literacy skills.
  • To have the ability to multi-task and display a flexible working approach.

What I might be doing?

The post holder, as part of their roles and responsibilities, will:

  • Drive various LGV / Non LGV Vehicles.
  • Lead a small operational team.
  • Carry out daily vehicle checks and FTA vehicle compliance.
  • Collect waste and recyclable materials from across the district.

Essential requirements:

  • Current clean LGV Driving Licence (category C). The Licence to show no more than 6 penalty points as per current national driving penalties system.
  • Driver Certificate of Professional Competence qualification (DCPC).

  • This is a full-time post of 37 hours per week (Tuesday to Friday – March – November).
