Wakefield Inclusion Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Support Service (WISENDSS) is seeking to appoint a dedicated and creative Deaf Instructor (DI) to join our team working with D/deaf children. The successful candidate will be based at either Castleford Academy (Secondary) or Rookeries Carleton School (Primary), with occasional peripatetic duties, to be confirmed upon appointment.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Deaf Instructor qualified to teach Deaf awareness and British Sign Language, supporting deaf students\’ learning in resource bases and mainstream classrooms. You will motivate and inspire pupils while maintaining high standards of attainment.
Our resource bases aim to create an engaging learning environment, offering academic and extracurricular opportunities. You will work as part of a friendly, enthusiastic team committed to improving provision for Deaf pupils.
Your responsibilities include:
- Planning learning support with Teachers of the Deaf
- Supporting and differentiating instruction for pupils
- Teaching Deaf Awareness and BSL (up to Level 3) to pupils, staff, and families
- Planning and delivering language development, Deaf news, and culture lessons
- Safeguarding pupils and supporting their social and emotional development
