Join Wakefield Council as an EV Charging Project Manager!

Are you passionate about tackling climate change and driving forward sustainable transport solutions? Wakefield Council is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to lead our Electric Vehicle (EV) Infrastructure Programme. This is your chance to make a real difference in our community, helping us deliver innovative EV charging solutions and supporting the transition to a greener future.

Why Wakefield Council?

At Wakefield Council, we’re committed to creating a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable environment for everyone. As part of our Climate Change team, you’ll work alongside dedicated professionals, elected members, and external partners to deliver impactful projects that benefit residents, businesses, and public services. We value collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement, and we’re proud to offer a supportive and inclusive workplace where your ideas and contributions will be valued.

About the Role:

As our EV Charging Project Manager, you’ll take the lead in managing the full lifecycle of EV infrastructure projects—from inception to operation. You’ll play a key role in delivering public charging infrastructure through government funding, such as the LEVI fund, and work closely with contractors, stakeholders, and regional partners to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.

  • Developing strategies to coordinate EV infrastructure across council services and regional partners.
  • Preparing bids for funding and managing procurement processes.
  • Overseeing the installation and operation of EV chargepoints across council land and public spaces.
  • Engaging with local communities, businesses, and landlords to promote EV adoption and accessibility.
  • Representing Wakefield Council at external events and building strong relationships with national agencies and government departments.

What We’re Looking For:

We’re seeking someone with a passion for sustainability and a drive to deliver impactful projects. If you have experience in project management, transport decarbonisation, or stakeholder engagement, we’d love to hear from you! While a relevant degree or equivalent experience is essential, we encourage applications from candidates who may not meet every single requirement but are eager to learn and grow in this exciting role.

Desirable skills include:

  • Knowledge of EV Public and Private charging solutions and infrastructure.
  • Experience working with contractors and managing contracts.
  • Familiarity with funding opportunities and business case development.
  • Prince 2 or equivalent project management qualifications (not essential).

What We Offer:

  • A chance to work on meaningful projects that contribute to a sustainable future.
  • Opportunities for personal and professional development.
  • Flexible working arrangements to support your work-life balance.
  • A supportive and inclusive environment where your ideas are valued.

Working Conditions:

Based at Wakefield One, our prestigious office in the City with some home working. This role offers variety and flexibility, including site visits, external meetings, and occasional out-of-hours work. You’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, from council teams to government agencies and local businesses.

Ready to Make a Difference?

If you’re excited about the opportunity to lead Wakefield’s EV Infrastructure Programme and contribute to our climate change goals, we encourage you to apply—even if you don’t meet every single requirement. We’re looking for someone with the passion and potential to grow in this role and help us drive positive change.

Apply today and be part of Wakefield Council’s journey towards a greener future!
