As a Driver Trainer with a C+E license, you'll have the important job of ensuring all our drivers are of the highest standard and that they represent the John Lewis Partnership brand professionally while out on-the-road in our 44t articulated lorries. It's a hugely rewarding role as you train, assess and test Partners (including apprentices) and agency drivers to pass our HGV programme, helping them to obtain their own license. You'll also maintain their ongoing training and keep Partner training records for all Transport Partners.

  • Hours of work: Full-time, 47.5 hours per week, working 5 out of 7 days. This role requires flexible night shifts throughout the working week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessing all transport drivers, ensuring they meet the required driving and Partnership standards.
  • Assessing all driver applications at the interview stage during the recruitment process.
  • Conducting CPC training.
  • Ensuring Health and Safety procedures are adhered to, including reporting injuries, accidents, and any Health and Safety issues.
  • Attending regular meetings and communicating any operational issues to the management team.
  • Ensure Partner Training Records are maintained and give appropriate refresher training when necessary and as requested by a Transport First Line Manager.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of the latest driving regulations, techniques, and vehicle technology, using this knowledge to pass on to trainees.
  • Operational monitoring of tachographs, accidents, vehicle facilities, and Microlise.

Essential skills/experience you'll need:

  • In date LGV C+E licence entitlement.
  • Up to date Drivers CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence).
  • Experience working with a large fleet and transport drivers.
  • Experience in training and assessing drivers.

Desirable skills/experience you may have:

  • RTITB (Road Transport Industry Training Board) Instructor qualification or equivalent.
  • Certified Driver CPC Training Instructor DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) approved.
