About the Role

As a Registered Nurse in the Perioperative Unit, you will deliver safe, effective and compassionate care to patients and their whānau throughout their surgical journey. Your work will span the full perioperative continuum - including preoperative preparation, scrubbing, circulating and supporting a range of acute and elective surgical procedures. You will use your specialised clinical knowledge to maintain a sterile, efficient operating environment, ensure infection prevention and control standards are upheld, and contribute to excellent surgical outcomes. Clear communication, strong assessment skills and collaborative teamwork will be essential as you work alongside surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses, and wider multidisciplinary colleagues.

About the Team/Service/Location

Based at Hawkes Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital, the Perioperative Unit is a dynamic, highly skilled environment where teamwork, professionalism and patient safety are paramount. You will work within a supportive theatre team that values open communication, continuous improvement and a shared commitment to high-quality surgical care. The service works closely with specialists across multiple surgical disciplines, offering variety and learning opportunities for nurses who enjoy fast-paced acute work and technical skills development. The team operates with the values of Te Mauri o Rongo at heart, fostering a culture of respect, learning and collaboration.

About you

You will be an experienced or developing perioperative nurse who brings clinical expertise, sound judgement and a calm, professional approach. You will have:

  • Current New Zealand Nursing Council registration and APC.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Strong time management and the ability to prioritise in a fast-paced setting.
  • At least three years theatre experience or a genuine interest and passion for theatre nursing.
  • Commitment to providing culturally safe, patient-centred care.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to support, mentor and learn from others.
