As a Maintenance Carpenter, you'll provide high-quality carpentry services across Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Hawkes Bay facilities. Your work will include general building maintenance, repairs, light construction, door hardware, locks, glazing, and specialist carpentry tasks that help keep our buildings safe, functional and fit for purpose.
Working under the guidance of the Lead Carpenter, you will identify and assess building issues, complete repairs to a high standard, maintain accurate records, and support the delivery of key maintenance KPIs. Your contribution directly supports patient safety and ensures our facilities operate smoothly for staff, patients, and visitors.
You’ll be part of the IIG Maintenance Team - a collaborative, multitrade group that ensures the ongoing safety, quality and reliability of hospital facilities across the Hawkes Bay district. The team is supportive, solutions-focused, and committed to maintaining high standards of workmanship.
Working closely with the Maintenance Supervisor, trade leads, contractors and other internal stakeholders, you’ll be part of an environment where teamwork, communication and professionalism are highly valued.
You’ll be a skilled and reliable tradesperson with strong carpentry experience and the ability to work well in a busy, varied environment. You will have:
- A Trades Certificate or New Zealand Certificate in Carpentry (Level 4), or equivalent.
- Experience working across a wide range of carpentry tasks, including general building work.
- Knowledge of joinery, glazing, locks and hardware.
- Good understanding of the Building Code and relevant standards.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multitrade team.
- Good physical fitness and the ability to access a range of environments such as ceilings, underfloor areas and plant rooms.
- The ability to manage workload, prioritise tasks and meet timeframes.
Preferred: Experience in a hospital or similar environment and/or Licensed Building Practitioner status.
