A well established and reputable law firm is seeking an experienced Risk & Compliance Manager to join its Bristol office. This is a key strategic hire, replacing a long standing team member who is retiring, and offers the opportunity to take ownership of the firm’s risk, regulatory and compliance framework. Working closely with senior leadership, you will play a central role in ensuring the firm maintains robust governance, meets its regulatory obligations and continues to operate with integrity, transparency and best practice standards.
The Role
- Lead and manage the firm’s risk and compliance function, including:
- Overseeing all aspects of regulatory compliance, including SRA Standards & Regulations
- Managing the firm’s AML framework, including CDD, EDD, source of funds checks and ongoing monitoring
- Maintaining risk registers, internal controls, policies and procedures
- Providing guidance, training and support to partners, fee earners and support staff
- Conducting file audits, conflict checks, complaints handling and quality assurance
- Supporting the COLP/COFA with reporting obligations and regulatory updates
- Leading on GDPR, data protection and information security processes
- Acting as a key point of contact for internal and external compliance queries
- Driving a culture of risk awareness and continuous improvement across the firm

Candidate Requirements
- Strong experience in risk, compliance or regulatory work within a law firm or professional services environment
- Excellent working knowledge of AML legislation and practical AML processes
- Strong understanding of SRA rules, Codes of Conduct and regulatory obligations
- Ability to develop, implement and improve compliance systems and processes
- Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with stakeholders at all levels
- High attention to detail, sound judgement and a proactive, solutions focused approach
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team culture
