A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Shift Engineer in the team to join a large UK manufacturing site in the South East London area. With no day ever being the same, the Shift Engineer will be in the centre of innovative and exciting projects. The Shift Engineer role will involve:
- Ensure all scheduled maintenance tasks are completed on time, sharing relevant feedback with senior technical staff to support refinement of maintenance procedures.
- Collaborate daily with the technician on the alternate shift to ensure effective handover of active tasks and exchange of key information.
- Offer technical insight to help enhance equipment performance, efficiency, and reliability, working with senior engineering staff to address persistent issues with long‑term solutions.
- Contribute to cost‑reduction and performance‑boosting initiatives by helping to evaluate equipment effectiveness and reliability, and by suggesting improvements in spare parts and consumable usage.
- Carry out equipment repairs safely and efficiently, keeping production teams informed of progress and completion times.
- Perform additional engineering or site‑related tasks as directed by management to support the wider operational goals.
- Communicate any potential safety concerns or signs of equipment failure to supervisors without delay.
- Assist in overseeing external contractors on‑site to ensure compliance with all internal safety protocols and operational guidelines.
- Adhere strictly to all site‑specific safety procedures and engineering standards, including those laid out in internal and governing health & safety manuals.
- Report any incidents or near misses according to company safety procedures, supporting a proactive safety culture.
- Use and maintain protective safety equipment correctly, in line with legislation and site expectations.
- Follow established safe working methods and best‑practice engineering processes at all times.
- Help ensure the working environment remains clean and orderly, supporting safe and efficient operations.
- Uphold all company codes of conduct and operational expectations.
- Contribute to the upkeep and optimization of site assets to achieve maximum operational efficiency.
- Maintain strong lines of communication between maintenance and production teams to ensure seamless coordination.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
- Electrical Installation 18th Edition.
- Electrical Installation Maintenance.
- Mechanical Fabrication/Maintenance.
- Electronic fault finding to component level.
- Ability to develop effective working relationships across all levels of management and staff and work as part of a team.
- Must possess a recognised qualification relevant to the role (e.g. mechanical or electrical C&G).
- Skilled in both Electrical and Mechanical trades: Apprenticeship with indentures preferred.
- Preferred knowledge of other engineering disciplines including pneumatics, hydraulics, steam systems.
