About the Role
As a locum Consultant in Respiratory Medicine, you’ll provide expert care and contribute to the delivery of high-quality services.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert diagnosis, treatment, and management of a wide range of respiratory conditions, including asthma, COPD, lung cancer, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, and sleep-related breathing disorders.
- Lead and supervise multidisciplinary respiratory teams, offering senior clinical decision‑making and supporting junior doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals.
- Oversee and interpret specialist respiratory investigations, such as bronchoscopy, pulmonary function tests, thoracic imaging, and sleep studies.
- Deliver acute respiratory care, including input into critical care, non‑invasive ventilation, and management of respiratory emergencies.
- Develop and implement clinical pathways and service improvements to enhance patient outcomes, efficiency, and compliance with national guidelines.
- Engage in teaching, training, and mentoring, contributing to the education of medical students, trainees, and other healthcare professionals.
- Communicate effectively with patients and families, showing leadership in shared decision‑making and long‑term disease management.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
- A current Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check or PVG check – or a willingness to undergo one as part of the registration process
- UK Right to Work – visa sponsorship is not available
- Strong communication and teamworking skills
Desirable:
- CCT in Respiratory Medicine (or within 6 months of achieving it)
