An established and highly regarded independent accountancy practice near Maidenhead is looking to appoint an experienced Tax Accountant to join its growing team. The firm works with a broad portfolio of owner-managed businesses, SMEs and private clients, providing accounting, taxation and business advisory services. This is a hands-on position for someone who has developed their career within an accountancy practice and is now looking for a role where they can take ownership of a varied client portfolio. You’ll be responsible for both tax compliance and advisory work, managing client relationships and providing practical, commercially focused tax advice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing and reviewing Self Assessment tax returns
  • Preparing and reviewing Corporation Tax computations and returns
  • Providing personal and corporate tax planning advice
  • Advising clients on Capital Gains Tax
  • Supporting clients with VAT and CIS-related matters
  • Providing tax planning support to owner-managed businesses, directors, sole traders and individuals
  • Calculating tax liabilities and advising clients on payments and deadlines
  • Identifying tax planning and tax-saving opportunities
  • Liaising directly with HMRC on behalf of clients
  • Supporting clients with HMRC enquiries and investigations
  • Managing tax compliance deadlines across an allocated client portfolio
  • Building strong, long-term relationships with clients
  • Working closely with colleagues across accounts and business advisory
  • Keeping up to date with changes to UK tax legislation
  • Supporting and reviewing more junior members of the team where appropriate

About You

This position requires someone with a strong background in UK accountancy practice who is comfortable managing their own workload and dealing directly with clients.

Essential

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working within a UK accountancy practice
  • Strong personal and/or corporate tax experience
  • Experience preparing tax returns and computations for a varied client portfolio
  • Experience working with SMEs, owner-managed businesses and private clients
  • Good working knowledge of UK taxation
  • Confidence communicating directly with clients and HMRC
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and take ownership of a portfolio
  • Strong attention to detail and technical accuracy
  • Commercial approach with the ability to identify advisory and tax-planning opportunities

ATT, CTA, ACA or ACCA qualifications would be advantageous, although candidates with strong relevant practice experience will also be considered.
