Step into this newly created and highly visible HR leadership position, with a clear focus on employee relations and leadership of the advisory team.

We are working exclusively with our client to swiftly appoint a new Head of People - Operations to an initial 12-month fixed-term contract. As the organisation as grown and developed, so too has the influence and value of the People team, leading to the current Head of HR now focusing on transformation and compliance, and this new role providing professional leadership on complex and high-risk employee relations matters.

In this role you will lead and develop a team of HR advisors, overseeing disciplinary, grievance, capability, attendance, performance, and conduct processes, ensuring consistency across the organisation.

A coaching mindset, providing constructive challenge to Regional Directors, Area Directors, and managers will be a key part of your influence, as will working closely with the HR Director and with the Head of People Transformation & Compliance.

What you’ll do

You’ll take ownership of operational HR casework, shaping how people practices are applied in real-world situations. Your expertise will be critical in managing tribunal risk and providing sound governance on employee matters.

  • Leadership and development of the HR Advisory team (6 x HRAs and 1 Administrator)
  • Oversight of operational HR casework
  • Professional leadership on complex and high-risk employee relations matters
  • Disciplinary, grievance, capability, attendance, performance and conduct processes
  • Reasonable adjustments, occupational health and equality considerations
  • Case governance, employment tribunal risk and management reporting
  • Consistent implementation of People policies and procedures
  • Operational input into new policies, systems and legislative changes

What you’ll need

  • CIPD Level 5 qualification at a minimum, providing a strong foundation in HR principles and practices
  • Extensive experience handling complex employee relations issues, giving you the confidence to navigate high-risk situations
  • Willingness to travel across the UK two to three days per week, to provide on-site support, leadership and relationship- building.
  • A hands-on approach to proactively solving challenges and spotting opportunities

Full time, headquarters in Colchester Essex with UK travel

Salary up to £69,000 DoE

Car allowance of £6,000
