We are seeking a Quality Inspector to join our team at the LH Group (a Division of Wabtec UK Ltd) based in Burton on Trent. We support our customers through maintenance and operation optimisation with customised solutions for spare parts, repair, and overhaul activities on existing trains.
Role: Quality Inspector (UAT)
Salary: £Competitive
Location: Burton on Trent, Staffordshire, (DE13 8EN)
Hours: Monday to Thursday 07:00am to 16:00pm and Friday 07:00am to 12:30pm, 37 hours per week
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time
How will you make a difference?
You’ll help maintain the highest standards of quality and safety, ensuring all WRL products meet contracted specifications. Your work will reduce the cost of poor quality and support continuous improvement initiatives.
What will your typical day look like?
- Perform inspections against standards, drawings, and specifications.
- Input inspection of wheelsets.
- Stage/in-process inspections.
- Finished work inspections and sign-off.
- Conduct Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) and Ultrasonic Testing (UAT) of axles/wheelsets.
- Carry out controlled hand-reclamation of axles to specification where required.
- Maintain accurate inspection records and analyse results.
- Work with Quality Engineers and production teams to identify improvement opportunities.
- Raise Production Queries (PQ’s) and promote a culture of quality awareness.
- Record and report on Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ).
What do we want to know about you?
- Experience in mechanical inspection within a rail or engineering environment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Competence in MPI and UAT (PCN Level 2 desirable).
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 and RISAS standards.
- Skilled in using precision measuring equipment (micrometres, verniers, torque wrenches).
- IT literate (Microsoft Office).
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to continuous improvement.
