Who will you be working with?

We are seeking an experienced Production Engineer to join our team at the LH Group (a Division of Wabtec UK Ltd) based in Burton on Trent. we support our customers through maintenance and operation optimisation with customised solutions for spare parts, repair, and overhaul activities on existing trains.

Location: On-site

Hours: Monday to Thursday, 08:00am to 16:30pm, and Friday 08:00am to 13:00pm

Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Annual Leave: 25 days plus bank holidays (plus 8 bank holidays)

How will you make a difference?

The role will initially be split across two sites: Doncaster and Barton-under-Needwood. For approximately the first 12 months, the position will be primarily based at the Doncaster site to support with the transfer of work. Following this period, the role will transition to be based at our Barton-under-Needwood site on a permanent basis. Regular travel between both locations may be required during the initial phase.

What will your typical day look like?

  • This role will serve as a key link between the Operations and the Engineering teams.
  • Ensures the correct interpretation of drawings and technical instructions and takes the lead on communicating issues back and working in conjunction with the engineering team to resolve problems and issues.
  • Invests time daily in engaging with the shift operational team to understand production losses and issues, and work with them to resolve.
  • Uses industry standard problem solving tools (Lean Manufacturing) to resolve issues.
  • Use data analysis to understand production losses.
  • Scopes out projects to tackle production losses and leads these to resolve the issues and lock in results.
  • Supports the coaching of line operators in developed standards and equipment/line mastery.
  • Supports the tender and bid team with production hours and definitions.
  • Support the operational excellence team with task profiles and order of tasks.
  • Supports the planning function on reviewing planned vs actual task hours along with driving improvement actions.
  • Acts on production problems and AAW to provide clarity of instruction.

What do we want to know about you?

  • Do you have a Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree, HNC or HND.
  • Formally qualified engineer, ideally with a background in mechanical and electrical disciplines.
  • Previously worked in a fast paced changing environment with a large volume of AAW, whilst still striving to meet customer demand.
  • Proven influencer who can get the best out of people and teams at all levels within the business.
  • Prior knowledge of rail vehicles and associated systems is desirable, although not essential.
