Who will you be working with?
We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to join our team at Wabtec UK based in Burton on Trent.
In this role you will support customers through maintenance and operation optimisation with custom solutions for spare parts, repair, and overhaul activities on existing trains.

How will you make a difference?
As a Systems Engineer you will act as the technical specialist for our product group, delivering engineering solutions that enhance safety, reliability, and performance.
This is a hands‑on role requiring strong technical expertise and collaboration with customers, suppliers, and internal teams.
What will your typical day look like?
- Provide system engineering knowledge, experience and skills to Wabtec UK.
- Produce and check technical documentation including Technical Instructions, Overhaul specifications, Production Queries (PQs), technical bulletins, technical reports, technical specifications, Technical Queries (TQs), work instructions, wheelset data sheets, calculations, concessions and Engineering change orders (ECOs).
- Check and approve technical drawings, Engineering bill of materials (EBo Ms), customer TI’s and any technical documentation produced by mechanical engineers.
- Provide risk evaluation, assessment and mitigation evidence for product safety hazards.
- Support investigations into failures of systems and components, determine root cause and present findings.
- Support the Wabtec UK tender process.
- Interface with external and internal customers on engineering project progress and issues.
- Maintain Engineering project plans and track Engineering deliverables.
What do we want to know about you?
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
- Experience in mechanical engineering (rail experience preferred).
- Strong knowledge of specification, design, testing and maintenance of mechanical systems.
- Proficiency in CAD and MS Office tools.
- Excellent communication and decision‑making skills.
- Ability to work independently and travel to customer/supplier sites as required.
