We are seeking a Production/Continuous Improvement Engineer to join our team at Wabtec UK based in Burton on Trent where we support our customers through maintenance and operation optimisation with customised solutions for spare parts, repair, and overhaul activities on existing trains.
Location: Burton on Trent, Staffordshire, (DE13 8EN)
Hours: Monday to Thursday 08:00 to 16:30pm and Friday 08:00am to 13:00pm, 37 hours per week
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time
How will you make a difference?
As a Production / Continuous Improvement Engineer you will play a key part in optimising manufacturing and assembly processes, removing bottlenecks, and driving Lean initiatives to support both new and existing manufacturing programmes.
What will your typical day look like?
- Support the cost‑effective introduction of new and existing products into manufacture or overhaul
- Design, develop and validate efficient manufacturing processes, workflows and build sequences
- Identify and remove production bottlenecks using Lean tools and CI methodologies
- Create clear, user‑friendly work instructions using visual and written formats
- Lead and participate in Lean projects
- Analyse bills of materials (BOMs) to improve kitting efficiency and material flow
- Develop business cases and present recommendations to management
- Measure and validate standard times, implementing productivity improvements
- Support layout design and cell optimisation to improve flow, space and efficiency
- Ensure equipment meets safety, corporate and operational specifications
What do we want to know about you?
- HNC (or equivalent) qualification in Engineering or CI
- Experience in manufacturing, production or CI engineering
- Practical application of Lean tools
- Strong data analysis and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities
- Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
