The Manufacturing Engineer – Health & Safety Projects Support role is responsible for supporting and delivering health and safety improvement projects across manufacturing operations. The role focuses on designing safer processes, equipment, and layouts, ensuring compliance with UK health and safety legislation, and embedding best practice into engineering and production activities.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, delivery and implementation of health and safety improvement projects within manufacturing areas.
  • Actively contribute to risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), and safe systems of work for manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Create and review risk assessments to ensure compliance and continual improvement.
  • Support workplace hazard identification and implement engineering controls to reduce risk.
  • Assist with incident, near‑miss, and safety observation investigations, identifying root causes and corrective actions.
  • Ensure manufacturing processes comply with UK legislation, including HASAWA, PUWER, COSHH, and Machinery Safety standards.
  • Create and maintain COSHH processes, ensuring hazardous substances are assessed, controlled, and regularly reviewed.
  • Support HAVS (Hand–Arm Vibration Syndrome) monitoring and control activities where applicable.
  • Responsible for the management, monitoring, and upkeep of LEV (Local Exhaust Ventilation) systems, ensuring compliance with COSHH and HSE regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Good understanding of UK health and safety legislation and manufacturing safety standards.
  • Experience completing or supporting risk assessments and safety projects.
  • Strong problem‑solving, analytical, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams.
