My client is currently seeking an experienced Lead/Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing engineering team based in Glasgow. This is an excellent opportunity to take on a key technical leadership role, working across a diverse range of industry projects while mentoring and developing junior engineers.

The Role

As a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in driving the design and development of mechanical systems and enclosures from concept through to production. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, to ensure high-quality, cost-effective, and manufacturable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of mechanical products and enclosures across the full product life cycle
  • Produce and review 2D and 3D CAD designs, primarily using SolidWorks
  • Define mechanical architecture and ensure robust, scalable design solutions
  • Work closely with manufacturing and liaise with manufacturing engineers to support production and assembly processes
  • Design for manufacturability, including injection moulding and sheet metal components
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers
  • Support multiple projects across different industry sectors

Key Requirements

  • Proven experience in a senior or lead mechanical design role
  • Strong proficiency in 2D/3D CAD, particularly SolidWorks
  • Experience across the full product life cycle, from concept through to manufacture
  • Solid understanding of injection moulding and sheet metal design
  • Experience working closely with manufacturing teams and processes
  • Ability to lead projects technically and mentor junior team members
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
