A Mechanical Design Engineer is sought to join an established and internationally recognised engineering business based in East Staffordshire. This role offers the opportunity to work on innovative projects within a collaborative and forward-thinking environment, with flexibility built into the working approach.

The Role

  • Interpreting customer requirements to define and develop mechanical specifications for loadbank systems.
  • Creating detailed 3D CAD models using SolidWorks, with a focus on sheet metal design.
  • Selecting appropriate components and specifications, considering compliance, cost, and availability.
  • Structuring and managing CAD data within PDM systems in line with company standards.
  • Collaborating with Electrical and Systems Engineering teams to ensure designs are practical, safe, and commercially viable.
  • Supporting and liaising with key suppliers and manufacturing partners, including guidance on products incorporating electrical elements.
  • Tackling complex design and manufacturing challenges as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • Presenting design concepts to stakeholders and working with suppliers to develop prototypes and test samples.
  • Producing comprehensive mechanical design documentation, including layout drawings and engineering calculations.
  • Resolving design issues identified during fabrication, production, testing, or in-service operation.
  • Ensuring designs are completed, reviewed, and released in line with project deadlines and business objectives.

About You

  • Proficient in SolidWorks; experience with PDM systems and FEA is advantageous.
  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent industry experience).
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communicator and team player, capable of presenting complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Familiar with Bill of Materials (BOM) structures and lifecycle management.
