Seeking a hands-on AWS Solutions Architect with strong Commercial Insurance experience. This role will work alongside other leads to drive the architectural vision for the Underwriting Policies domain and coach offshore development and DevOps teams to deliver on architectural strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architectural discovery strategy for complex underwriting initiatives.
  • Lead technical discovery, bridging the gap between Business Analysts, Dependency Management, and Engineering.
  • Align with the North Star enterprise architecture, balancing immediate business needs with long-term standards.
  • Navigate the LII Architecture Review Board (ARB) process, presenting designs and securing approval for patterns, technologies, and integration strategies.

Hands-On Design & Prototyping

  • Design and prototype cloud-native solutions on AWS, leveraging Serverless technologies (Lambda, Step Functions, DynamoDB, API Gateway).
  • Write Infrastructure as Code using AWS CDK in Python and TypeScript to prototype concepts and create standardized artifacts for delivery teams.
  • Design event-driven integration patterns (hub-and-spoke) using internal orchestration and eventing platforms.
  • Coach offshore teams on AWS observability, Python, and TypeScript best practices.

Governance & Standards

  • Ensure solutions comply with Disaster Recovery standards.
  • Enforce security best practices, including Auth0 for identity management and rigorous secrets management.
  • Collaborate with DevOps to align architectural designs with GitHub Actions pipelines and the internal developer platform CloudForge.
  • Create Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity plans aligned with LM enterprise architecture and governance.
  • Produce threat models and security assessments aligned with LM governance.
  • Assess data compliance and personal information across regulatory regions.
  • Operate and support live production systems.
  • Lead support of production systems following DevOps principles, handling incidents and investigations.
  • Ensure observability best practices and regulatory compliance (e.g., EU DORA) using tools like Datadog, Splunk, and BigPanda.

Qualifications

Mandatory Requirements

  • Must hold at least the AWS Solutions Architect Associate certification.
  • Ability to articulate and defend core concepts of the certification during an interview.

Technical Expertise

  • Deep experience designing and building serverless architectures; comfortable discussing complex patterns at high availability levels.
  • Hands-on coding proficiency in TypeScript, Node.js, or Python (required for prototyping and reviewing code).
  • AWS CDK experience highly preferred.
  • Strong background in enterprise integration, moving from legacy point-to-point connections to modern event-driven architectures and API-led connectivity.

Domain Knowledge

  • Insurance experience, preferably commercial, with a good understanding of core domain entities: Underwriting Policies, Claims, and Billing.

Soft Skills & Leadership

  • Governance navigation experience in large regulated enterprises, including ARB participation.
  • Global mindset; ability to collaborate with stakeholders across North America, UK, Europe, and APAC regions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Auth0 or similar modern IDPs.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce integration patterns for underwriting workstations or broker portals.
  • Knowledge of observability tools (Datadog, Splunk, BigPanda) for distributed tracing and monitoring.
