Role objectives
This role will support the Private Client group with their US/UK tax expertise. The focus will be on how the tax rules need to be considered to create tax efficient wealth strategies for our clients. As part of this, the individual will also ensure that our clients have the correct reporting needed to report their investments and remain compliant with their tax return obligations.
Key accountabilities
- Tax Analysis & Structuring β [Weighting - 35%]
- Provide tax analysis due to the potential US/UK taxes that may arise for our clients as part of onboarding their external investments to London & Capital.
- Use US/UK tax knowledge to provide guidance on how clients' investments should be structured and managed.
- Support the portfolio management team with the US/UK tax considerations associated with structuring and trading different types of investments.
- Learn the US/UK tax automated reporting process and be involved in the periodic run of this to the relevant portal.
- Be a point of contact for tax reporting related queries and be able to provide ad-hoc reporting as required (for example, the information that they need to assess interim tax payments) to clients and their tax advisers.
- Guide the team on the completion of all client tax forms, including FATCA, IRS and self-certification forms.
- Onboard clients and their accounts to our internal systems to ensure their US/UK tax fact pattern is captured from the outset.
- Ensure these records are updated whenever a clientβs tax situation changes (for example a client becomes deemed domicile in the UK or relinquishes their US passport).
- Support the investment advisers on all US/UK tax-related client queries.
- Business Development - [Weighting 5%]
- Join other experienced members of the team (tax team and advisers) in their meetings with external professionals and introducers (US/UK tax advisors, lawyers, and other professionals that service US connected families).
- Personal Development - [Weighting 5%]
- Complete the Level 4 Investment Management Certificate (IMC) qualification in the first year of joining us. This is required to have a baseline understanding of the regulations that apply to our business and the industry.
- It will also help develop an understanding of investments and the different security types in our client portfolios.
- Develop an understanding of the US family office proposition and how the wider business operates.
Qualifications
Qualifications required: ATT qualified as a minimum 3-4 years spent working in a US/UK tax compliance role.
