The Role
W Talent Engineering are partnering with a leading manufacturer in Cardiff to recruit an experienced and highly motivated Engineer to step into an Engineering Manager position. This individual will take full ownership of the site's engineering and maintenance function, leading a small skilled team to deliver world-class equipment reliability, plant performance and engineering standards. The successful candidate will be a strong advocate for health, safety and compliance, ensuring that safe working practices remain at the forefront of all engineering activities. They will drive a proactive maintenance culture, challenge the status quo and implement continuous improvement initiatives that support the business's ambitious growth plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a small maintenance and engineering team, promoting a culture of accountability, engagement and continuous improvement.
- Champion a safety-first culture across the engineering function, ensuring compliance with all health, safety and environmental regulations.
- Develop, implement and continuously improve maintenance strategies, policies and procedures to maximise equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
- Plan and coordinate preventative and predictive maintenance activities to minimise downtime and improve asset performance.
- Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments and engineering reviews to identify and mitigate operational risks.
- Work closely with production and operational teams to prioritise maintenance activities and minimise disruption to manufacturing schedules.
- Drive behavioural change and challenge existing practices to improve engineering standards and performance.
- Monitor and analyse maintenance KPIs, identifying trends and implementing corrective actions where required.
- Manage engineering budgets, maintenance expenditure and contractor performance to ensure cost-effective operations.
- Oversee the procurement and management of spare parts and maintenance inventory.
- Support capital investment projects, equipment upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives across the site.
- Ensure all engineering activities are completed safely, efficiently and in line with company and legislative requirements.
Candidate Requirements
- HNC/HND qualified in an Engineering discipline and apprentice trained - Electrical Bias preferred.
- Proven experience in a process manufacturing environment.
- Multi-skilled engineering background is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of preventative maintenance systems, asset management and continuous improvement methodologies.
- IOSH Managing Safely qualification as a minimum requirement.
- Demonstrable experience of driving health and safety improvements within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of UK health, safety and environmental legislation.
- Excellent leadership, coaching and people management skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
- Proficiency in maintenance management systems (CMMS) and Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
