An opportunity has arisen for a Post‑Qualified Surveyor to join a well‑established and highly regarded Business Rates advisory team, acting for a mix of occupier and landlord clients across a broad range of sectors. The role is suited to an individual with a solid grounding in rating valuation and appeals work who is looking to further develop technical expertise while taking on increasing responsibility for client delivery. You will manage defined elements of your own case load, support senior colleagues on complex and high‑value instructions, and contribute to wider portfolio‑level strategies.

The successful candidate will be involved in national and regional occupier portfolios, portfolio‑wide rating reviews, and Proposal/Appeal and Check/Challenge/Appeal (CCA) casework. The role requires strong analytical capability, sound valuation judgement, and the ability to communicate clearly with clients and public‑sector stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and progress a varied Business Rates caseload, covering valuation, appeals, and advisory work under minimal supervision.
  • Undertake inspections, measurement, and surveys of commercial properties across multiple sectors.
  • Prepare and submit Proposals/Appeals and Check/Challenge/Appeal (CCA) cases, including reasoned valuation arguments.
  • Analyse rental evidence, cost data, tone lists, and comparable assessments to support valuation strategy.
  • Support senior colleagues on complex, high‑profile, or portfolio‑wide instructions, including large occupier portfolios.
  • Attend and contribute to client meetings, providing clear and commercially focused advice.
  • Liaise professionally with Assessors, the Valuation Office Agency, and Local Authority Rates Teams.
  • Maintain high standards of file management, compliance, and documentation.
  • Contribute to sector research, knowledge sharing, and the continuous development of internal databases.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across advisory disciplines to deliver coordinated, client‑focused solutions.
  • Actively support and promote a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace culture.
Requirements
  • MRICS qualified with post‑qualification experience in Business Rates or rating valuation.
  • Demonstrable experience of rating valuations and appeals, including CCA or Proposal/Appeal work.
  • Strong technical valuation skills and analytical capability.
  • Confident written and verbal communicator, able to engage effectively with clients and public authorities.
  • Commercially aware, organised, and capable of managing competing priorities.
  • Proactive and collaborative, with the ability to work independently where required.
  • Full UK driving licence.
