The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Auxiliary Plant Operator to join the operations team at the Dunbar facility.
Working a rotating shift pattern covering days, nights and weekends, you will support the safe and efficient operation of the plant, ensuring maximum availability while maintaining the highest standards of health, safety and environmental compliance.
Reporting to the Shift Team Leader, you will carry out operational activities across the boiler house and turbine hall while assisting with maintenance, shutdown activities and general plant operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor plant performance through routine inspections and operational checks.
- Operate equipment safely and efficiently within the boiler house and turbine hall.
- Support the day‑to‑day running of the facility to maximise plant availability.
- Complete accurate shift handovers and maintain detailed operational logs.
- Assist with planned shutdowns and carry out first‑line maintenance activities.
- Operate mobile plant and associated machinery.
- Support loading and unloading operations across the site.
- Operate weighbridge systems and complete relevant documentation.
- Supervise the safe unloading of plant consumables including lime, carbon, ammonia and gas oil.
- Safely operate overhead travelling cranes following appropriate training.
- Report accidents, incidents and near misses in accordance with company procedures.
- Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with Safe Systems of Work, environmental legislation and Health & Safety regulations.
About You
To be successful in this role, you’ll ideally have:
- Previous experience within a process, manufacturing, production or industrial environment.
- Experience operating mobile plant or heavy industrial equipment.
- A good understanding of industrial process machinery.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
- GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- A proactive, reliable and safety‑conscious approach.
Desirable
- Experience within the waste management, power generation or energy recovery sectors.
- Knowledge of permit‑to‑work systems, plant isolations and Safe Systems of Work.
- Experience using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Forklift licence.
- MEWP qualification.
- Working at Height certification.
- Mechanical or operational maintenance qualifications.
- Experience training or mentoring colleagues.
