Responsibilities

  • The Head of Delegated Operations is responsible for helping to define, implement and maintain Berkley Specialty London (BSL) Delegated Strategy and Target Operating Model.
  • The Delegated Operations team is responsible for delivering a great service on a day-to-day basis to a range of stakeholders including our customers, Coverholders, brokers, regulators and colleagues.
  • Leadership and day-to-day Management of a team responsible for all aspects of Delegated Operations for BSL Underwriting.
  • Delegated Onboarding: Manage and co-ordinate onboarding of new Coverholders (including sponsorship to Lloyd's), liaising as necessary with other business functions on relevant matters.
  • Bordereaux processing: In conjunction with the Delegated Reporting Manager (direct report to this position) ensure the timely and accurate processing of Risk, Premium Bordereaux.
  • Underwriting Controls: Ensure appropriate controls and reporting are in place to adhere to relevant regulator and Berkley standards.
  • Delegated Subject Matter Expert: A key point of contact for Delegated Underwriting matters across all classes of business both internally within BSL Underwriting and externally.
  • Risk management: Manage the underwriting risk of the portfolio in conjunction with the underwriters, including Line Slip due diligence and new business development specific to Coverholders.
  • Vendor management and outsourcing: Responsible for effectively liaising with 3rd party firms to support our delegated operations e.g. Audit / Due diligence as required.
  • Operational Resilience: Help to ensure the maintenance of robust and resilient operations, embedding cyber resilience and effective third-party risk management by design and using third-party audits.
  • MI Development: Work with the Data and Analytics team to enhance delegated reporting capabilities.
  • Continuous improvement: Identifying and acting on opportunities for operational efficiency/effectiveness and innovation. The job holder should be a role model for this and encourage it within their teams.
  • Business systems and applications: Support projects to define requirements and make improvements to enhance our capabilities and deliver our Target Operating Model.
  • Regulatory requirements: Ensures regulatory requirements are adhered to and all relevant company policies and procedures are up to date.
  • Service Level Agreements: Ensure the Delegated Operations team meet key SLAs / KPIs and performance is appropriately monitored.
  • Chair quarterly Delegated Underwriting Group. A forum to support the effectiveness of the Delegated Controls Framework.
  • Committee attendance: Prepare for and attend relevant committees as required.
  • Other matters: Other ad hoc tasks related to Delegated Underwriting / business operations.

Qualifications

  • Relevant professional qualifications and a strong academic record.
  • Experience managing Lloyd's London Delegated Operations, risk and control functions.
  • Experience managing 3rd Party vendor relationships.
  • Strong leadership, team building and motivation skills.
  • Strong reporting and communication skills, including at Board and Committee Level.
  • Ability to independently plan and execute changes required to improve BSL operational performance.
  • Ability to work within and promote a diverse and inclusive culture.
  • Attend Delegated Underwriting meetings organized by Lloyd’s, LMA and other insurance organizations.
