Due to continuing expansion, WM Donald is currently recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor based in our office at Netherley.

About the Role

You’ll play a key role in successfully managing all financial aspects of a project pre and post contract. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Minimising the costs of a project and enhancing value for money, while achieving the required quality, safety and environmental standards.
  • Liaising with clients and developing cost plans and estimates in line with their requirements.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Company Standards of Service, Management Systems and meeting the requirements of the company business plan(s).

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities and cash flow forecasts.
  • Undertaking cost analysis and reporting on project work (pre-and-post contract).
  • Assisting in establishing the client's requirements and undertaking budget cost studies which reflect these requirements.
  • Performing risk/value management and cost control.
  • Identifying, analysing and developing responses to commercial risks.
  • Preparing and analysing costs for tenders.
  • Obtaining quotations and preparing sub contract documents for subcontractors.
  • Providing advice on and assisting with the preparation of contractual claims.
  • Analysing outcomes of and writing detailed progress reports.
  • Preparing interim valuations, final accounts and arranging payments.
  • Maintaining awareness of the various civil engineering contracts in current use.
  • Understanding the implications of health and safety regulations.
  • Maintaining document logs and registers.
  • Liaising with contract staff, suppliers and clients.
  • Implementing and maintaining company procedures and contract administrative systems.
  • Using a variety of software packages including EasyEarthworks, Excel, Word, Project, Constructa and Entropy.

Strong track record of delivery of projects in a construction environment. Clear understanding of the full project management lifecycle. Ability to manage tasks independently and work to deadlines. 3 years experience as an estimator or QS. Understanding of ISO 9001, 14001 & 45001 standards.
