Reports to: Premises Manager

Salary: Starting salary NJC scale 3, scale point 5, £29,436 per annum. Rising to a maximum of NJC scale 3, scale point 6, £29,856 per annum.

Working Days: 5 days per week, 52 weeks per year.

Working Hours: 36 hours per week 11.00am - 6.45pm (6.30pm finish on Friday), including 30 minute unpaid lunch.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a full‑time Premises Assistant to work as part of our on‑site team. This is an important role to us, and plays a key role in ensuring that the school is a safe, secure and well‑maintained place of work and education. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate and provide a range of DIY skills, including plumbing, carpentry, decorating and basic electrics. Working alongside the Premises Manager and another Premises Assistant, this is an ideal opportunity for a hardworking, experienced, confident and proactive person who is equally happy working within a team and independently. This role is a ‘hands‑on’ one and will involve both manual handling and some working at height. There may be occasional need for some weekend working (payable as extra hours). Postholders may also be required to support premises colleagues at other schools within our multi academy trust. Previous experience of working in a school is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the school premises are safe, secure and well‑maintained.
  • Perform DIY tasks such as plumbing, carpentry, decorating and basic electrics.
  • Carry out manual handling and occasional work at height.
  • Collaborate with the Premises Manager and another Premises Assistant.
  • Provide support to premises colleagues at other schools in the trust as required.
  • Work both independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

  • Experience in DIY skills including plumbing, carpentry, decorating and basic electrics.
  • Ability to handle manual tasks and work at height.
  • Good teamwork and independent working abilities.
  • Flexibility to work occasional weekend hours (payable as extra hours).
  • Previous experience in a school is desirable but not essential.
