Our Estates, Tax Planning, and Trusts team handles all aspects of estate administration and trust management, as well as advising on lifetime planning, Wills, and LPAs. They also have a growing Court of Protection practice. Several members of the team are members of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and are recognised as specialists in this field. The team is part of the wider nationally recognised Private Client department, which includes around 50 lawyers across all four of our office locations and is ranked in the top tier of Legal 500.

Estates, Tax Planning, and Trusts is looking to recruit a paralegal to join the team based in Birmingham. A paralegal role at VWV provides the perfect foundation for future trainee solicitors looking to gain experience before starting a training contract, or even to assist with applications for training contracts. This is due to the variety of legal disciplines to which you will be exposed. We are proud of our record in transitioning a significant proportion of our existing paralegals into trainee solicitors. However, to provide stability for our legal teams and ensure our paralegals gain strong commercial exposure before progressing, we do ask for a minimum commitment of 12 months in the paralegal role before starting a training contract or leaving to study for the SQE.

Is This the Role for You?

In this role, you will be invaluable by taking ownership of the legal administration tasks, allowing our lawyers to focus on business generation. You will assist with the production of marketing materials and seminar notes, maintain Lexcel-compliant files, and help draft client correspondence and reports. You will become familiar with the firm’s compliance procedures for letters of engagement, file opening, money laundering, archiving, billing, and client accounts. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to hone those all-important client-facing skills as you play a key role in gathering relevant information from private clients to assist the lawyers with their enquiries.

Who We Are Looking For

Perhaps you are a recent graduate looking to secure a training contract, or you could be someone working towards a CILEx qualification in private client work. We are open to candidates from a range of educational backgrounds who can demonstrate an interest in private client work and possess the right transferable skills. While private client paralegal experience is desirable, it is not essential. What matters most to us are your core skills and attitude: strong organisation, excellent communication, confident IT ability (including Microsoft Office), and a calm, professional manner when dealing with clients and colleagues alike.

Where Will I Be Working?

VWV supports hybrid working and equips all paralegals for home working. However, for our early talent, we believe it is crucial for development to gain as much exposure to office life as possible, so these roles are predominantly office-based. That said, we are happy to discuss individual circumstances and hybrid arrangements as part of the assessment process.

Why Choose Us?

There are so many reasons to stop and explore VWV further. We are known for our friendly and welcoming culture, where teamwork and collaboration are key. There is no pigeon-holing or glass ceilings here, just a professional yet relaxed environment where you can finally be yourself. At VWV, we are committed to your growth with our bespoke Learning Academy, offering structured career-level programmes across core business areas to prepare you for promotion opportunities and career advancement—join us to unlock your full potential. We strive to be an inclusive employer of choice, creating a workplace that promotes and values diversity, where everyone, regardless of background, can reach their full potential. During the assessment process, we have supported a range of reasonable adjustments in the past, though we continue to learn and evolve to create the best possible candidate experience for everyone. If you would like to discuss what is possible—even if you are not sure what you might need—please reach out to our recruiter, who will be happy to talk through options and share what has worked well for others.
