We are looking for an experienced and motivated Business Assurance Advisor to support the continued development, maintenance and improvement of our integrated management system.
The role will work closely with the Business Assurance Manager and will initially support assurance activities across the business, including internal auditing, corrective action management, compliance monitoring and management‑system improvement.
This position offers a clear development pathway for someone who already has practical ISO auditing experience and is looking to progress into a future Business Assurance Manager role.
The successful candidate will have a good understanding of ISO management systems, particularly ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, and will be confident conducting audits, reviewing evidence and working with operational teams to drive improvement.
Key responsibilities
- Plan, prepare and undertake internal audits across projects, sites and business functions.
- Produce clear, accurate and evidence-based audit reports.
- Identify nonconformities, observations, risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Support the management and continual improvement of the integrated management system.
- Assist with the review and update of policies, procedures, process maps and other controlled documents.
- Monitor corrective actions and support action owners with root‑cause analysis.
- Verify that corrective actions have been implemented effectively.
- Support external certification audits, client audits and supplier audits.
- Assist with the development and delivery of the annual audit and assurance programme.
- Maintain accurate audit records, action trackers, registers and supporting evidence.
- Support the preparation of assurance reports, dashboards and management‑review information.
- Monitor audit findings, action close‑out, compliance trends and recurring issues.
- Provide practical advice to project teams and departments on management‑system requirements.
- Support tender, prequalification, accreditation and certification submissions where required.
- Work collaboratively with operational, health and safety, environmental, quality, HR, commercial and project teams.
- Promote a positive culture of assurance, compliance, learning and continual improvement.
Essential Experience
- Practical experience of working with ISO management systems.
- Experience of conducting or supporting internal audits.
- Good understanding of ISO 9001.
- Working knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
- Experience of gathering objective evidence and assessing compliance.
- Experience of writing audit reports and recording findings.
- Experience of managing or supporting corrective actions.
- Good document‑control and record‑management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to challenge constructively and professionally.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work across multiple projects or business functions.
Essential Qualifications
- A recognised internal‑auditor qualification for at least one ISO management‑system standard.
- A relevant qualification, or equivalent practical experience, in quality, assurance, compliance, health and safety, environmental management, risk or a related discipline.
Desirable Experience And Qualifications
- Internal‑auditor training covering ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
- CQI and IRCA‑recognised auditor or lead‑auditor training.
- Experience within construction, engineering, infrastructure, rail or highways.
- Experience of working with an integrated management system.
- Knowledge of ISO 27001.
- Experience supporting external certification audits.
- Experience of client, supplier or project assurance audits.
- Membership of a relevant professional body, such as CQI, IOSH or IEMA.
- Experience using audit, compliance or action‑tracking software.

- Advising senior managers and project teams.

- Maintaining key elements of the integrated management system.
- Deputising for the Business Assurance Manager where appropriate.
