The BIM Technician is responsible for producing and coordinating CAD drawings and BIM models across a range of projects, supporting project teams, coordinators, and managers. The role includes assisting in the implementation and adherence to BIM standards, ensuring all models, drawings, and data are developed in line with company and project requirements. The technician will contribute to project workflows by maintaining accurate and up-to-date models and documentation, supporting coordination between disciplines, and helping to identify and resolve design clashes. They will work closely with both internal teams and external consultants, contributing to the effective delivery of coordinated design information and ensuring consistency across all project outputs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the delivery and coordination of projects from technical design through to construction, utilising Autodesk & Bentley software.
- Ensure effective, accurate and efficient draughting services to all projects.
- Support effective delivery of projects to time, quality, and cost targets together with the ability to multi-task and prioritise.
- Support the implementation of best practices and consistent processes across projects, liaising with stakeholders and supply chain partners to maintain quality and consistency.
- Develop and manage 2D and 3D models and associated documentation using industry-standard CAD and BIM tools such as MicroStation & OpenBuildings Designer.
- Ensure models are fully coordinated by applying clash detection and avoidance techniques within a federated BIM environment or digital model.
- Produce high-quality 3D models and detailed construction drawings, ensuring alignment with overall project information requirements.
- Develop model geometry and associated data in accordance with project standards, BIM Execution Plans (BEP), and relevant information requirements.
- Carry out model reviews, audits, and clash detection prior to submission to ensure compliance with project standards.
- Support BIM coordination and management teams in delivering project outputs and resolving technical issues.
- Maintain and contribute to the Common Data Environment (CDE), ensuring accurate, timely, and structured information sharing.
- Participate in quality checks to ensure models and drawings meet required levels of detail, accuracy, and client information requirements.
- Monitor compliance with BIM processes and standards, contributing to reporting on deliverables and project progress.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated and coordinated design outputs.
Requirements:
- HNC or HND in Engineering/Design.
- Proficient use of the following Software Packages: Bentley MicroStation, Bentley OpenBuildings Designer.
- In-depth working knowledge of 3D modelling.
