As a Data Centre Technician, you’ll be responsible for managing day-to-day support requests and ensuring the smooth operation of our data centre infrastructure located on-site in London. This is a 6-month contract role with potential for extension. Contractors will engage on an independent basis (Outside IR35) through their own Ltd company or an approved umbrella partner.

What To Expect

  • Installing and carrying out ongoing maintenance on servers and network equipment – including racking and stacking servers and switches, cabling, and configuring devices.
  • Responding promptly to reported server, network, and infrastructure incidents.
  • Coordinating with facilities teams to ensure power, cooling, and other building services are operating correctly; coordinating maintenance and escalating any outages where necessary.
  • Running hardware diagnostics and replacing faulty components in a timely manner.
  • Working with vendor engineers to resolve warranty issues quickly and effectively.
  • Proactively identifying issues and opportunities to improve efficiency, and developing action plans to address them.
  • Setting up, maintaining, and documenting spare parts inventory.
  • Working alongside Vultr’s engineering teams on cybersecurity and network performance.
  • Upgrading internal system components such as CPUs, memory, hard drives, and network cabling.
  • Keeping detailed records of infrastructure, maintenance activities, and physical inventory.
  • Escalating technical issues where required to ensure swift resolution.
  • Ensure all work adheres to Vultr’s on-site safety, access, and data-handling protocols.

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years’ experience working as a Data Centre Technician or in a similar hands-on role involving installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of server and network equipment.
  • Ability to operate autonomously and deliver outcomes to agreed timelines within the facility.
  • Strong understanding of servers, network hardware, and data centre services such as power, cooling, and cross-connects to service providers.
  • Proven experience troubleshooting, building, repairing, and upgrading servers.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • Clear and confident communication skills.
  • Comfort working in a high-availability environment with 24/7 infrastructure.
  • Capable of working the following shift: Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (UK time, BST/GMT depending on season).
