Due to ongoing business growth, we are expanding our technical teams in Bristol and looking to hire an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join Vulcain on a full-time permanent basis, to play an integral part of our major nuclear new build programmes. The Mechanical Engineer will support the delivery of equipment packages including pumps, filters, heaters and pressure systems and will sit within a high-performing engineering team responsible for ensuring equipment meets stringent safety, quality and integration requirements across the project lifecycle.
Main responsibilities
- Provide technical oversight of mechanical equipment packages (e.g. pumps, filters, heaters, pressure equipment)
- Review and assess supplier designs, deliverables and documentation
- Support resolution of technical queries across design, manufacturing and qualification phases
- Ensure alignment of equipment with system and interface requirements
- Contribute to configuration control and management of design changes
- Support technical meetings and stakeholder coordination across engineering teams
- Monitor progress, risks and issues associated with equipment delivery
- Ensure compliance with nuclear standards and project requirements
This is an opportunity to play a key role in one of the UK's most significant nuclear infrastructure programmes, working on complex, safety-critical equipment within a highly collaborative engineering environment.
Alongside a commitment to our values of Care & Compassion, Performance, Team Spirit, and Inclusiveness, we are looking for individuals who can bring the following:
Key qualifications
- Background in mechanical engineering within regulated industries (e.g. nuclear, oil & gas, energy)
- Experience working with process or pressure equipment (e.g. pumps, heat exchangers, packages)
- Understanding of equipment design, manufacture and lifecycle delivery
- Familiarity with engineering interfaces and system integration
- Experience reviewing technical documentation and supplier deliverables
- Awareness of configuration or change management processes
- Strong stakeholder communication and coordination skills
- Comfortable working in structured, quality-driven environments
Please note that visa sponsorship is not guaranteed and is assessed on a case-by-case basis, depending on role criticality and project needs. Many of our UK projects require high-level security clearance, meaning we can often only consider candidates with an existing, indefinite right to work in the UK. Exceptionally, we may consider visa sponsorship for applicants with niche experience aligned to our core work (e.g. EPR/nuclear new build).
