About Vulcain Engineering

Vulcain Engineering, an international engineering consultancy, supports global industrial leaders in their transition to a more responsible and sustainable future. We support our customers in the design, construction, commissioning and operation of their complex infrastructure projects that will shape the world of tomorrow. With operations in 17 countries and employing over 6,000 staff worldwide, our business responds to the needs of our clients by delivering high-value engineering expertise tailored to our clients’ most complex challenges. In the UK, we have a key focus in the Nuclear sector, contributing to ground breaking projects, such as Hinkley Point C (HPC).

The Position - Business Manager

Our core business is built around delivering exceptional engineering consulting services for client accounts and their projects. Each framework is led by a dedicated account owner who builds relationships, identifies opportunities, and ensures delivery through a team of consultants. Acting almost like mini-business owners, our Business Managers take responsibility for growth, profitability, and client satisfaction. We’re looking for someone to take on one (or more) of our developing and new client accounts - raising our profile, unlocking opportunities, growing and leading a team of consultants to deliver outstanding results. You’ll have the autonomy to run your own profit centre, acting as the face of Vulcain for your clients, with the full support of our skilled recruitment and business teams.

Some of the main responsibilities of the Business Manager will include:

  • Take ownership of a defined section of the business and be fully responsible for its profit and loss.
  • Manage customer accounts end-to-end, including business development, bidding, recruitment, delivery, and team leadership.
  • Lead, coach, and support your own delivery team to ensure high performance.
  • With responsibility for your own profit centre, you will gain experience in all aspects of growing and managing your own account.

Alongside a commitment to our values of Care Compassion, Performance, Team Spirit, and Inclusiveness, we are looking for individuals who can bring the following:

  • Experience within the UK nuclear industry and an understanding of engineering principles, ideally with knowledge of how they apply across a project lifecycle.
  • Minimum bachelor degree in a technical, project management, commercial subject or similar.
  • Commercial awareness, including experience with utilisation, pricing, profitability or account/contract growth.
  • Currently hold, or be eligible to obtain SC (Security Check) clearance for UK Defence and Nuclear sites.
  • Willingness and flexibility to travel to client locations across the North West weekly or when required.

This is a unique role and is a niche opportunity for someone with the right technical knowledge and interpersonal strengths to develop their commercial skills and play an integral part in our continued growth as a business. We therefore encourage applicants from varied backgrounds to apply, however nuclear or defence experience would be essential. Please note that this role requires eligibility to obtain UK Security Check (SC) clearance.

We offer a competitive salary tailored to your experience and background. Whether you’re earlier in your career or bring more senior-level expertise, we encourage you to apply if this role aligns with your skills, or if you’re open to discussing other opportunities within this discipline. We also offer a benefits package, both standard and enhanced, which is designed to support your wellbeing, development, and financial future, including:

  • ~25 Days Annual Leave + Bank Holidays, with the ability to swap bank holidays for cultural or religious celebrations
  • ~ Matched Pension Scheme
  • ~ Enhanced Maternity, Paternity, Adoption and Neonatal Care Leave
  • ~ Employee Referral Scheme
  • ~ Private Medical Dental Insurance
  • ~ Electric Vehicle Scheme
  • ~ Cycle to Work Scheme
  • ~ Training Development, including additional qualifications and accreditations relevant to your role
  • ~ Travel Insurance – for both business and personal travel
  • ~ Employee Assistance Programme

At Vulcain Engineering, we offer more than just a job, we offer a rewarding career with endless opportunities for growth and development. You’ll be part of a talented team of professionals working on exciting and meaningful projects and making a real impact to the nuclear industry. We offer a dynamic and collaborative work environment where your talents are valued, and your contributions are recognised. Join us in shaping the future of the nuclear industry and driving innovation to new heights.
