About Vulcain Engineering

Vulcain Engineering Ltd, our UK business, is well positioned within the UK Nuclear industry. We provide the flexibility our clients demand by working at our customers’ sites in the UK and Europe as well as carrying out work remotely on their behalf. We are dedicated to providing the highest level of organisational support to key projects.

Vulcain Engineering was founded in the mid-2000s to specialise in energy and environment projects. Our knowledge of the energy and environment sector means we can support our customers at all stages of the engineering-procurement-construction-commissioning (EPCC) project lifecycle. With operations in 16 countries and employing over 6,000 staff worldwide, our business responds to the needs of our clients by delivering expertise in the form of high added value engineering services.

The Position:

Vulcain Engineering UK are seeking a Planner to join the planning and scheduling team on a permanent basis for internal and client engineering projects in the UK Nuclear sector. In this position, the Scheduler will play an integral part of controlling and managing the project and programme progress, whilst utilising specialist tools to analyse the overall performance of the schedules/plans.

Some of the main responsibilities of the Planner will include:

  • Breakdown Structures (WBS), resource management, cost management of risk and critical path review, using appropriate software and tools.
  • Manage the change control as the project/programme scope changes, using the correct processes and updating the necessary configuration documentation.
  • Utilise 4D Synchro to support back-end installations on the project.
  • Produce and present monthly reports.
  • Monitor the project baseline control and different types of baseline change.
  • Integrate risk and their costs effectively into the plan/schedule.
  • Apply project control methodologies and processes for programme and project management schedule.
  • Participate in technical communities to support the development of other Vulcain staff.

The Project Planner will play an important role in Vulcain’s PMO teams and will directly support a range of high profile and high value nuclear new build projects, offering the chance to develop a career in some of the largest projects in the UK for several decades.

Preferred Profile:

  • Experience with Primavera P6, and 4D Synchro.
  • Broad experience of supporting the construction and/or engineering phase of a high value project.
  • Industry exposure in Nuclear or another highly regulated heavy industry, such as Energy, Rail, Defence.
  • Understanding of project management tools and techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate costs/data in a well structured manner.
  • Confident managing a multitude of stakeholders, including senior leadership, both internally and externally, as well as the ability to challenge and consult when required.

You will have indefinite and independent right to work in the UK, due to the high level of security clearance required on several of our UK Nuclear sites. Reside locally to Bristol or be prepared to relocate, as this permanent role does not include travel expense coverage.

Please note that visa sponsorship is not guaranteed and is assessed on a case-by-case basis, depending on role criticality and project needs. Many of our UK projects require high-level security clearance, meaning we can often only consider candidates with an existing, indefinite right to work in the UK. Exceptionally, we may consider visa sponsorship for applicants with niche experience aligned to our core work (e.g. EPR/nuclear new build).

Remuneration & Benefits:

We offer a competitive salary tailored to your experience and background. Whether you're earlier in your career or bring more senior-level expertise, we encourage you to apply if this role aligns with your skills, or if you're open to discussing other opportunities within this discipline.

We also offer a benefits package, both standard and enhanced, which is designed to support your wellbeing, development, and financial future, including:

  • 25 Days Annual Leave + Bank Holidays, with the ability to swap bank holidays for cultural or religious celebrations.
  • Matched Pension Scheme.
  • Enhanced Maternity, Paternity, Adoption and Neonatal Care Leave.
  • Employee Referral Scheme.
  • Private Medical & Dental Insurance.
  • Electric Vehicle Scheme.
  • Cycle to Work Scheme.
  • Training & Development, including additional qualifications and accreditations relevant to your role.
  • Travel Insurance – for both business and personal travel.
  • Employee Assistance Programme.
