About Vulcain Engineering
Vulcain Engineering, an international engineering consultancy, supports global industrial leaders in their transition to a more responsible and sustainable future. We support our customers in the design, construction, commissioning and operation of their complex infrastructure projects that will shape the world of tomorrow. With operations in 17 countries and employing over 6,000 staff worldwide, our business responds to the needs of our clients by delivering high-value engineering expertise tailored to our clients’ most complex challenges. In the UK, we have a key focus in the Nuclear sector, contributing to ground breaking projects, such as Hinkley Point C (HPC) and Sizewell C (SZC).
The Position:
As a Safety Case/Technical Integration Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring that all technical and design changes on the Sizewell C project are effectively integrated and compliant with nuclear safety case requirements. You will act as the bridge between engineering, safety case authors, and the site delivery teams—ensuring that any proposed changes are properly assessed against licence conditions and approved through the appropriate governance routes. This is not a traditional Health & Safety role. Instead, it focuses on the nuclear safety case, its supporting documentation, and how changes to plant design, configuration, or operation impact the overall safety justification.
Some of the main responsibilities of the Safety Case Engineer will include:
- Support the development, maintenance, and integration of the Sizewell C Safety Case in accordance with nuclear site licence conditions.
- Act as the interface between site delivery teams and the central safety case function, ensuring that technical changes are understood, assessed, and appropriately controlled.
- Coordinate the review and approval process for safety case changes, ensuring timely escalation where formal approval is required.
- Provide expert input into the technical integration of engineering modifications, ensuring that safety case impacts are identified and managed.
- Liaise with regulatory and assurance bodies as required to support compliance with Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) expectations.
- Maintain clear and accurate documentation of changes, justifications, and approval outcomes.
- Support continuous improvement in safety case management processes and promote a strong nuclear safety culture across project teams.
Preferred Profile:
Alongside a commitment to our values of Care & Compassion, Performance, Team Spirit, and Inclusiveness, we are looking for individuals who can bring the following:
- Degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Demonstrable experience in nuclear safety case development, implementation, or integration within a licensed nuclear facility or major nuclear project.
- Strong understanding of nuclear licence conditions, particularly those relating to safety documentation, modification control, and configuration management.
- Experience coordinating across multiple technical disciplines and stakeholders.
- Experience with UK new build nuclear projects (e.g., Hinkley Point C or similar) is desirable.
- Familiarity with engineering change control and safety justification processes is desirable.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards professional registration is desirable.
- Reside locally to Leiston, Suffolk or be prepared to relocate, as this permanent role does not include travel expense coverage.
Please note that visa sponsorship is not guaranteed and is assessed on a case-by-case basis, depending on role criticality and project needs. Many of our UK projects require high-level security clearance, meaning we can often only consider candidates with an existing, indefinite right to work in the UK. Exceptionally, we may consider visa sponsorship for applicants with niche experience aligned to our core work (e.g. EPR/nuclear new build).

We offer a competitive salary tailored to your experience and background. Whether you're earlier in your career or bring more senior-level expertise, we encourage you to apply if this role aligns with your skills, or if you're open to discussing other opportunities within this discipline.
