With operations in 17 countries and employing over 6,000 staff worldwide, our business responds to the needs of our clients by delivering high-value engineering expertise tailored to our clients’ most complex challenges. In the UK, we have a key focus in the Nuclear sector, contributing to ground breaking projects, such as Hinkley Point C (HPC).
The Position:
We are seeking a Business Manager with a background and experience in installation, commissioning and/or operating plant and equipment within a highly regulated industry. This role is site‑based and requires excellent stakeholder management as you will be acting as the primary representative for Vulcain on site and dealing with client and consultant management daily. You will have commercial accountability for the projects in your business area and will be required while supporting day‑to‑day operations of the business to continue to identify opportunities to grow our consultancy footprint.
Some of the main responsibilities of the Business Manager will include:
- Acting as the primary on‑site point of contact for key clients, delivery partners and other stakeholders.
- Building constructive, trust‑based relationships across our site team and our back-office organisation.
- Overseeing and supporting consultants deployed on site, including onboarding, workload management and performance oversight.
- Supporting the recruitment, onboarding and development of new consultants as the account grows, ensuring the team has the right capability to deliver ongoing and future work.
- Interpreting and operating effectively within industrial agreements (including NAECI) and established site working rules.
- Managing commercial performance for your section of the business, including utilisation, pricing, and forecasting.
- Identifying opportunities for delivering new scopes of work to provide best value to our clients and partners.
- Bid management, submitting proposals and planning in place mobilisation plans for delivering new and existing work.
This role requires an individual who is able to operate independently, understands the realities of complex industrial environments, and can translate technical insight into commercial growth.
Preferred Profile:
Alongside a commitment to our values of Care & Compassion, Performance, Team Spirit, and Inclusiveness, we are looking for individuals who can bring the following:
- Strong background in MEH installation and/or commissioning and/or managing the operation of plant and equipment within highly regulated sectors.
- Experience working in unionised site environments, with an understanding of NAECI and how it influences daily routines and workforce behaviours.
- Hands-on experience in construction, commissioning, or operations roles, ideally within nuclear or comparable large-scale industrial settings.
- Proven ability to manage, coordinate, or lead teams in a site-based context.
- Commercial awareness, including experience with utilisation, pricing, profitability or account/contract growth.
- Ability to build strong, professional relationships with supervisors, site managers, and delivery teams.
- A consultancy mindset: relationship led, professional, commercially aware, with the ability to represent Vulcain effectively on site.
- Reside locally to the South West region, or be prepared to relocate, as this permanent role does not include travel expense coverage.
Please note that visa sponsorship is not guaranteed and is assessed on a case-by-case basis, depending on role criticality and project needs. Many of our UK projects require high-level security clearance, meaning we can often only consider candidates with an existing, indefinite right to work in the UK. Exceptionally, we may consider visa sponsorship for applicants with niche experience aligned to our core work (e.g. EPR/nuclear new build).
