About Vulcain Engineering
Vulcain Engineering, an international engineering consultancy, supports global industrial leaders in their transition to a more responsible and sustainable future. We support our customers in the design, construction, commissioning and operation of their complex infrastructure projects that will shape the world of tomorrow. With operations in 17 countries and employing over 6,000 staff worldwide, our business responds to the needs of our clients by delivering high-value engineering expertise tailored to our clients' most complex challenges. In the UK, we have a key focus in the Nuclear sector, contributing to ground breaking projects, such as Hinkley Point C (HPC).
The Position: Cable Routing Coordination Engineer
As a Cable Routing Coordination Engineer, you'll design, develop and review the cable routing network across the HPC project, ensuring compliance with UK cabling standard and nuclear regulations. You'll produce cable routing deliverables, undertake routing studies and produce reports for designated nuclear island buildings, using optimised in-house routing software to support efficient and compliant design delivery.
Some of the main responsibilities of the Cable Routing Coordination Engineer will include:
- Coordinate the planning, execution, and delivery of cable routing design activities, ensuring alignment with project milestones and client expectations.
- Identify, manage, and drive resolution of cable routing constraints, including design changes, technical open points, cable and 3D model maturity.
- Define and implement a strategy to enable delivery of detailed cable routing for the full Nuclear Island IEG cabling scope.
- Manage interfaces across disciplines, suppliers, and stakeholders, ensuring design changes and interface requests are assessed, integrated, and clearly communicated.
- Ensure routing activities are based on validated, up-to-date data, including engineering rules, technical specifications, contract requirements, supplier inputs, and IMS processes.
- Establish effective reporting and performance monitoring to track progress, manage risks, and support decision-making, providing regular updates to project leadership and governance forums.
- Act as a key interface between engineering, design, procurement, and construction teams to ensure seamless integration of cable routing within the wider project delivery.
Preferred Profile:
Alongside a commitment to our values of Care & Compassion, Performance, Team Spirit, and Inclusiveness, we are looking for individuals who can bring the following:
- Degree in I&C or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
- Previous experience in I&C or Electrical design
- Experience producing high-quality engineering design documentation
- Strong ability to manage workload, meet deadlines, and maintain quality
- Confident and proactive communicator, including with remote teams (e.g. France and Germany)
- Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative, team-focused approach
- Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement in engineering quality
- Some knowledge of 3D modelling and CAD tools such as PDMS/E3D, Navisworks, and AutoCAD
- Knowledge of EPR system design principles and nuclear safety classification is beneficial but not required
- Reside locally to Bristol or be prepared to relocate, as this permanent role does not include travel expense coverage.
Please note that visa sponsorship is not guaranteed and is assessed on a case-by-case basis, depending on role criticality and project needs. Many of our UK projects require high-level security clearance, meaning we can often only consider candidates with an existing, indefinite right to work in the UK. Exceptionally, we may consider visa sponsorship for applicants with niche experience aligned to our core work (e.g. EPR/nuclear new build).
