The Position: Senior Civil Engineer – Design & Detailing (Nuclear New Build)

Due to ongoing business growth, we are expanding our technical teams in Bristol and looking to hire a Senior Civil Engineer to join Vulcain on a full-time permanent basis, to play an integral part of our major nuclear new build programmes. The Senior Civil Engineer will lead the coordination and delivery of civil design and detailing activities, and will focus on managing technical deliverables, ensuring alignment with project standards, and acting as a key interface between design teams, contractors and stakeholders.

Some of the main responsibilities of the Senior Civil Engineer will include:

  • Lead coordination of civil design and detailing activities across assigned packages
  • Review and oversee technical deliverables to ensure compliance with project requirements
  • Act as the key technical interface between design teams, contractors and stakeholders
  • Support development and management of detailing strategies and design processes
  • Chair technical meetings, workshops and design reviews
  • Manage risks, technical queries and design issues throughout the delivery lifecycle
  • Ensure alignment with replication principles and project standards
  • Contribute to reporting, planning and overall technical governance

This is a unique opportunity to play a central role in delivering complex civil engineering works on one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure programmes, with exposure to large-scale design integration and high-level stakeholder engagement.

Preferred Profile:

Alongside a commitment to our values of Care & Compassion, Performance, Team Spirit, and Inclusiveness, we are looking for individuals who can bring the following:

  • Background in civil engineering, ideally within large infrastructure or regulated environments
  • Experience in design detailing, reinforced concrete or structural delivery
  • Strong understanding of engineering design processes and technical governance
  • Experience working across multidisciplinary teams and managing interfaces
  • Familiarity with design standards, safety requirements and construction considerations
  • Ability to review technical submissions and manage design quality
  • Strong communication, coordination and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Structured and proactive approach to managing complex engineering scope
  • Reside locally to Bristol or be prepared to relocate, as this permanent role does not include travel expense coverage.

Please note that visa sponsorship is not guaranteed and is assessed on a case-by-case basis, depending on role criticality and project needs. Many of our UK projects require high-level security clearance, meaning we can often only consider candidates with an existing, indefinite right to work in the UK. Exceptionally, we may consider visa sponsorship for applicants with niche experience aligned to our core work (e.g. EPR/nuclear new build).

Remuneration & Benefits:

We offer a competitive salary tailored to your experience and background. Whether you're earlier in your career or bring more senior-level expertise, we encourage you to apply if this role aligns with your skills, or if you're open to discussing other opportunities within this discipline.
