With operations in 17 countries and employing over 6,000 staff worldwide, our business responds to the needs of our clients by delivering high-value engineering expertise tailored to our clients’ most complex challenges. In the UK, we have a key focus in the Nuclear sector, contributing to ground breaking projects, such as Hinkley Point C (HPC).
As we continue to grow, we are seeking an Electrical Pre-Operations Engineer to join our South West nuclear construction team in Bridgwater, Somerset. In this position, you will be providing specialist support to pre-operations activities and contributing to the development of periodic testing strategies, documentation, and delivery approaches for a major regulated infrastructure programme.
The role will involve developing operational instructions for periodic testing, as well as supporting the definition and improvement of processes required to implement testing activities within an operational environment. This includes interpreting and assessing technical information produced by the design authority, such as engineering drawings, specifications, and test documentation, and translating this into clear, usable operational outputs.
Some of the main responsibilities of the Electrical Pre-Operations Engineer will include:
- Develop and author periodic testing instructions and operational documentation for electrical and associated C&I systems within a regulated environment.
- Carry out engineering analysis of electrical systems, equipment, and components to define appropriate periodic testing and surveillance requirements.
- Review and interpret electrical design documentation, including drawings, specifications, schematics, and test instructions, translating these into practical operational outputs.
- Support the development and refinement of electrical surveillance and testing processes to enable safe and effective operational delivery.
- Contribute to planning and scheduling activities related to electrical periodic testing, ensuring alignment with wider operational and programme requirements.
- Support the verification and assurance of electrical operational documentation to ensure quality, consistency, and compliance.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams, delivery partners, and suppliers, providing electrical engineering expertise across organisational interfaces.
- Apply relevant operating experience and industry good practice to continuously improve electrical testing arrangements and support high operational standards.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders across Vulcain and partner organisations, providing engineering insight, supporting assurance activities, and helping to ensure testing arrangements are robust, efficient, and aligned with operational needs.
Alongside a commitment to our values of Care & Compassion, Performance, Team Spirit, and Inclusiveness, we are looking for individuals who can bring the following:
- Experience producing engineering work instructions, procedures, or operational documentation with a strong electrical or C&I focus.
- Solid understanding of electrical systems within industrial, infrastructure, or regulated environments, with the ability to interpret complex technical documentation and drawings.
- Experience planning and delivering engineering work packages within a project or programme environment.
- Ability to follow defined processes while contributing to their improvement, with a strong focus on safety and quality.
- Minimum HNC or HND in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- An engineering degree in an electrical or control-focused discipline would be advantageous.
- Reside locally to Bridgwater or be prepared to relocate, as this permanent role does not include travel expense coverage.
Please note that visa sponsorship is not guaranteed and is assessed on a case-by-case basis, depending on role criticality and project needs.
