The Position: Fire Safety Engineer
We are seeking a motivated Fire Safety Engineer to support the delivery of complex nuclear and highly regulated infrastructure projects.
The role involves applying fire engineering principles to identify and manage risk, develop robust fire protection strategies, and ensure safe, compliant design solutions.
You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, contributing specialist fire safety expertise across all stages of project delivery.
- Some of the main responsibilities of the Fire Safety Engineer will include:
- Identify and assess fire risks through detailed analysis of 3D models, combustible materials, and fire load scenarios.
- Undertake fire and smoke modelling using MAGIC software to inform design decisions and risk mitigation.
- Develop and define fire protection strategies, including fire zoning, detection, alarm, and suppression systems.
- Produce and review fire safety assessments to support safe, compliant engineering solutions.
- Ensure designs meet relevant legislation, standards, and regulatory requirements, including justification of departures from BS 9999 where required.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to embed fire safety requirements across all design stages.
- Support engagement with clients, regulators, and stakeholders on fire safety matters.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of fire engineering practices and technical assurance processes.

- Degree-qualified in Fire Engineering, Safety Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, or able to demonstrate equivalent practical experience in fire safety engineering
- Strong knowledge of UK fire safety regulations and standards, including BS 9999
- Proven experience undertaking fire protection calculations and using specialist fire engineering software
- Ability to develop, justify, and implement effective and innovative fire safety solutions
- Experience working in highly regulated environments; nuclear sector experience is highly advantageous
- Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail and a risk-based approach to problem solving
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering teams and stakeholders
- Demonstrable experience in nuclear safety case development, implementation, or integration within a licensed nuclear facility or major nuclear project.
- Reside locally to Bristol or be prepared to relocate, as this permanent role does not include travel expense coverage.
