VIDA bioenergy is a leading biomethane developer and operator active in the UK, Netherlands and Poland. We have operational plants in the Netherlands and UK, with further projects under development and in build. Biomethane is a key technology in the transition to net zero. It is an established and proven low carbon technology with thousands of facilities globally, taking manures, agricultural & industrial wastes and by-products and using bacteria to convert this into biomethane and an organic fertiliser.

As the Improvement Engineer you will be responsible for leading operational improvement activities for the VIDA bioenergy biomethane plants in the UK. Reporting to the UK General Manager, you will have safety, operations and engineering responsibility for capital improvement and continuous improvement activities. Initially the role will be based at our Glentham, Lincolnshire plant expanding to cover Wormslade, Leicestershire once that plant is commissioned.

What are your responsibilities?

  • Establish a pipeline of operational, reliability and safety improvement projects, from identification, through to scoping, business justification, design and implementation.
  • Coach and develop the local site operations teams.
  • Establish a Continuous Improvement programme at operational sites, identifying and coaching local CI leads.
  • Establish robust and practical systems to identify, report and analyse lost opportunity to feed into the overall improvement program.
  • Work with peers across the UK and Europe to share best practices.
  • Manage relationships with key technology service providers.
  • Develop KPI reporting packages for each site to allow impact of improvement activities to be quantified.
  • Work with IT and OT support to design and implement systems to extract, report and analyse SCADA data.
  • Assist with the planning and preparation for major overhauls and maintenance events.
  • Support the development and project teams providing operational input into the design and build process.
  • Occasionally cover Plant Manager role to provide cover for holidays and gain operational insights.

What we’re looking for:

  • Proactive approach to safety and compliance, ensuring that good safety management improves operational performance.
  • Experience in large scale process industries, first line management or supervisory experience from an operational or engineering role.
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a highly regulated industry, prioritising safety, environmental and compliant behaviour and culture.
  • Proven skills in running capital improvement projects.
  • Inquisitive mindset that naturally leads to seeking out root causes and potential remedies.
  • Able to work independently, taking pride and ownership of the work delivered.
  • Able to work collaboratively with the site teams to ensure local ownership of CI activities and support with capital projects.
  • Able to work collaboratively with the broader RNG management team, sharing best practice and willing to take on as well as share ideas and practices.
  • Always looking to do things better and go beyond industry norms.
