The Lower Thames Crossing (LTC) is a major new road infrastructure scheme linking the A2/M2 in Kent with the A13 and M25 in Essex via a 2.6 mile twin bore tunnel beneath the River Thames—the longest road tunnel in the UK. The 14.5 mile route incorporates new approach roads, upgrades to existing highways, and significant structures including bridges and viaducts.

We are seeking an experienced Electrician to join our Plant Department. This role can be based either within the main workshop or on active construction sites and is responsible for the assembly, commissioning, inspection, maintenance, and repair of specialist ground engineering equipment and associated electrical systems. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring plant reliability, safety, and operational performance across project operations.

Main Responsibilities

  • Equipment Inspection and Maintenance: Conduct daily inspections of plant and equipment, identifying faults, defects, or anomalies requiring further investigation or corrective action. Perform weekly electrical inspections in accordance with plant maintenance schedules, checklists, and company procedures. Troubleshoot electrical faults and carry out repairs, replacement, or maintenance of defective electrical components. Maintain accurate records and logs of inspections, maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance.
  • Site Electrical Installation and Commissioning: Participate in the installation, commissioning, and energisation of site electrical systems and temporary site facilities. Support the electrical setup of specialist ground engineering equipment and associated site infrastructure. Assist with the installation, testing, maintenance, and dismantling of auxiliary equipment including generators, pumps, distribution boards, and power systems. Ensure all electrical works are carried out safely and in accordance with company procedures and relevant regulations.
  • Operational Support and Safety: Support the safe operation and maintenance of specialist ground engineering equipment both in the workshop and on project sites. Participate in electrical lock‑out and isolation procedures under the supervision of the Electrical Supervisor. Adhere to all health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives relating to equipment reliability, maintenance standards, and site operations. Undertake additional duties as reasonably required to support operational and project needs.

Candidate Profile

  • Minimum 3 years' experience working as an Electrician within a team environment.
  • At least 2 years' experience working on heavy plant, construction machinery, or similar equipment in workshop and site environments.
  • Experience working with specialist foundation or ground engineering equipment such as BAUER and/or LIEBHERR machinery is desirable.
  • Electrical NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) preferred.
  • Valid ECS Gold Card preferred for candidates expected to work independently. Candidates holding NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) and a valid ECS Card may be considered for supervised positions.
  • Strong understanding of electrical fault finding, maintenance, inspection, and repair activities.
  • Experience working within construction, civil engineering, plant, or heavy equipment environments.
