JOB SUMMARY: The Spares Assess II role involves independently inspecting, assessing, and recording the condition of incoming aircraft wheel components and spares. You will determine if parts can be reused, repaired, or replaced, ensuring all work complies with approved manuals, regulatory standards, and company procedures. The role requires the ability to work unsupervised while maintaining a high level of accuracy and quality.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Independently inspect incoming wheels, wheel parts, and spares for wear, damage, and compliance with approved data.
- Use technical manuals, drawings, and Component Maintenance Manuals (CMM) to determine part serviceability.
- Make accurate reuse, repair, or scrap decisions without supervision.
- Prepare detailed assessment reports and ensure traceable, accurate records.
- Liaise with the purchasing team to request replacement parts as needed.
- Support continuous improvement activities in the spares assessment process.
- Maintain work areas, tools, and equipment to a high standard.
- Provide guidance and informal support to Spares Assess I colleagues when required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- NVQ Level 2, Vocational Qualifications Level 2, GCSE A* - C, ESOL Skills for Life, Higher Diplomas, Functional Skills Level 2 English, Maths & ICT.
- OEM or OEM recognised training.
- Aeronautical and Technical School, Aeronautical Military School or QA Assessment.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a workshop, engineering, or mechanical environment.
- Able to interpret technical manuals and drawings confidently.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in inspection and record-keeping.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise workloads.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
Progression Pathway to Spares Assess III: After two years of experience in the Spares Assess department, demonstrating consistent progress and a positive attitude, individuals will be considered for advancement to Level 3. This progression requires:
- Producing work of the highest quality.
- Maintaining consistency in performance.
- Attaining required productivity levels.
- A minimum of two years’ experience in wheel inspection.
- Early promotion to Level 3 may be granted to those who exceed expectations in performance, quality, and contribution to the team.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: Experience in aviation is preferred.
