Job Summary
The Stores Assistant I supports day-to-day warehouse operations by managing stock control, preparing items for work orders, and maintaining accurate inventory records. This role involves receiving and inspecting goods, organising storage areas, and ensuring documentation is up to date and compliant. The position also includes operating handling equipment, maintaining a safe workspace, and contributing to efficient, high-quality service across the stores function.
Responsibilities
- Receive, inspect, and record incoming goods and materials.
- Organise and store inventory in the appropriate locations including the mezz floor.
- Conduct regular stock checks and maintain accurate inventory records.
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages or discrepancies.
- Track, label, and manage unserviceable tires to ensure correct documentation and compliance with storage standards.
- Pick, pack, and prepare items for work orders.
- Ensure goods are correctly labelled and stored to minimise damage and maintain quality.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
- Operate warehouse machinery, such as forklifts, pallet trucks and other handling equipment (training provided if necessary).
- Adhere to health and safety regulations, including proper lifting techniques and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Process and manage delivery notes, incoming certification, and returns documentation.
- Ensure all records are kept up to date and compliant with company standards.
Minimum Requirements
- NVQ Level 1, Vocational Qualification Level 1, GCSE grade D-G, ESOL skills for life, Functional Skills Level 1 English Maths & ICT.
- 1 years’ experience working within a similar warehouse or storeman role.
- Familiarity with inventory management systems or warehouse software (e.g. Quantum).
- Basic IT skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel etc).
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Good numeric skills and a willingness to learn.
- Ability to multitask and work to KPIs.
- Enthusiastic and highly motivated.
- Ability to diligently follow work procedures and practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Requirements
- Experience with Quantum by Component Control or SAP.
