Role: Mechanical Design Engineer

Duration: 12 months

Location: Stevenage, SG1 2BP (on-site 2-3 days per-week)

Rate: Up to £50/hour (Umbrella)

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join an innovative R&D team in Stevenage on a 12-month contract. This role will focus on the design and development of advanced hardware solutions for next-generation bioprocessing technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead hardware development projects, including new product features and assembly processes.
  • Produce design specifications, drawings, prototypes, testing plans, and technical reports.
  • Collaborate with suppliers on prototypes and pre-production builds, supporting transfer into manufacturing.
  • Conduct laboratory testing to support design validation, verification, and troubleshooting.
  • Utilise CAD software and prototyping methods including 3D printing, CNC machining, and injection moulding.

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical/Design Engineering (2:1 or above) or similar.
  • 3+ years\’ experience in mechanical engineering within R&D environments.
  • Strong background in component design for processes such as machining, sheet metalwork, and injection moulding.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD packages.
  • Practical, hands-on approach to problem solving.
  • Must have the right to work in the UK (no sponsorship available).
