Our client is looking for a reactive maintenance engineer to join its established engineering team at a high-volume processing facility in Grantham. This is a hands-on role suited to a mechanically biased engineer who enjoys working in a fast-paced, production-led environment and taking ownership of plant reliability and performance. The position is based on a continental shift pattern of 4 on 4 off, days and nights.

As a Reactive Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of a wide range of industrial plant and machinery used within recycling operations. The role combines reactive fault finding with planned preventative maintenance and continuous improvement activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out reactive and planned maintenance to minimise downtime
  • Diagnose faults and restore machinery to optimal performance
  • Overhaul, adapt, and improve existing plant and equipment
  • Mechanical maintenance with some basic electrical work
  • Replace bearings, inspect compressors, and maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Maintain conveyors, pipework, hydraulics, pneumatics, and carry out welding tasks
  • Identify and suggest continuous improvement opportunities
  • Complete maintenance documentation accurately and on time
  • Support basic site and facility maintenance when required
  • Work collaboratively with the wider engineering and production teams
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
  • Mechanically biased engineer with Level 3 qualification (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 1 year's mechanical maintenance experience
  • Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyors, and plant machinery
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working in a production-driven industrial environment
  • Previous experience in recycling, waste, manufacturing, or similar sectors is advantageous
  • Flexible, team-focused approach with a 'right first time' mindset
  • Awareness of continuous improvement practices
