Location: Fareham, PO15 5TT
Rate: £17.79/hour PAYE (25 days annual holiday pro rata)
Shift: Mon- Thurs (7:30-3:30), Fri: 7:00-12:00 noon
Duration: 6 months initially
Position Summary
Join our team as an Assembly Operator & Tester, responsible for manufacturing and testing a variety of components and assemblies to aerospace standards. You will produce high-quality finished products in accordance with engineering drawings and build specifications, while participating in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Manufacture and test components and assemblies using recognised processes and skills
- Ensure work meets quality standards and complies with manufacturing specifications
- Accurately follow engineering drawings and work instructions
- Set up jigs, fixtures, and equipment for assembly or testing
- Work efficiently and independently after initial training, maintaining attention to detail
- Maintain housekeeping standards and participate in 6S/lean activities
- Actively participate in root cause analysis investigations
- Ensure regular, punctual attendance and follow health and safety policies
- Take on other duties as required
Higher Grade Responsibilities
- Support Team Leader/Management in driving improvements in Safety, Quality, Cost, and Delivery
- Provide production and MPS tools training to colleagues
- Conduct 6S audits and TPM activities
- Raise quality notifications and production orders within SAP systems
Experience & Skills
- Hands-on experience in a modern manufacturing or safety-critical environment
- Solid experience with mechanical assembly and manufacturing operations
- Skilled in aerospace or automotive industry processes and lean/six sigma methodologies
- Product testing/measurement skills (e.g., insulation resistance, dielectric, continuity, helium leak testing, NDT processes)
- Confident with manual assembly and use of measuring tools (digital calipers, micrometer, etc.)
- Able to read and interpret engineering drawings and instructions
- Familiar with Microsoft Office and ERP/database tools (such as SAP)
- Understanding of lean tools such as 6S, 5Y, TPM, Kanban
- Experience in at least three of: mechanical fitting, laser/dot peen part marking, grit blasting, and manual brazing (flame)
