Working within Resource Team, the Logistics Planner will provide support to the whole business. Contribute to logistics planning, through the allocation of resource (crews/vehicles and 3rd parties). Monitor costs and efficiency whilst ensuring outstanding customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and schedule crews, vehicles, and equipment, creating activity plans that follow established procedures and ensure on‑time delivery.
  • Monitor daily progress and adjust schedules proactively to manage delays, resource shortages, or changing customer requirements.
  • Respond to enquiries promptly and professionally, ensuring clear and accurate information is provided.
  • Communicate effectively with field crews, ensuring operatives have all necessary instructions, documentation, and safety information to complete work efficiently and safely.
  • Liaise with customers to provide updates on logistics requirements, changes, or potential impacts to delivery schedules.
  • Maintain accurate records of schedules, bookings, and resource allocations.
  • Liaise with suppliers and internal teams to ensure cost‑effective solutions that meet customer requirements within budget and timescales.
  • Book and administer third‑party haulage and labour, ensuring accurate billing through correct PO raising, receipting, and reconciliation against POD/POC documentation.
  • Monitor supplier performance and escalate issues where service levels fall below expectations.
  • Identify opportunities to optimise routes, loads, and resource utilisation to reduce cost and improve service.
  • Ensure all logistics activities comply with relevant safety, legal, and operational standards, including vehicle, driver, and site requirements.
  • Support incident reporting and investigation where logistics‑related issues occur.
  • Prepare documents for use by the Resource team and other departments.
  • Extract and combine data to generate standard reports.
  • Contribute to process improvements by identifying inefficiencies and recommending changes to planning, scheduling, or supplier management processes.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Proven experience & success in scheduling a multi‑tasked fleet of wagons & operatives preferable, though not essential.
  • Obtains and uses necessary information to make decisions, however, refers decisions to others when appropriate.
  • Intermediate IT literacy skills, Microsoft Suite. Ability to learn and work with new systems.
  • Knowledge of Zendesk and resource planning software is desirable.
  • Knowledge of the hire and roadways industries is desirable.
  • Problem‑solving skills to overcome obstacles or improve existing processes.
  • Customer service experience would be beneficial.
  • A flexible 'can do' attitude, remaining calm under pressure and acting as a support for the rest of the team.
